Thesis Writing Guidelines

Consistent style throughout the thesis is essential. The finished document should be considered comparable to a printed book in its format, style, accuracy, and clarity of presentation. Because the document may become a reference for others and represents one factor in the measurement of the quality of University programs, these regulations are designed to encourage consistency, readability, and clarity of the written materials submitted for Master’s degrees. The academic quality of the paper is the responsibility of the student and his/her committee.

The OILS Program uses the APA Style Manual, 5th Edition. This consistent style of format, footnotes, and bibliography are to be rigorously followed. The thesis will consist of the following sections:

  • Blank Page
  • Title Page
  • Approval Page
  • Abstract
  • Acknowledgments (optional)

  • List of Tables (optional)
  • List of Illustrations (optional)
  • List of Appendixes (optional)
