Kevin Comerford

Kevin J. Comerford is the Director of Digital Initiatives and Scholarly Communication at the University of New Mexico Libraries. Professor Comerford has implemented a variety of web resources for UNM using open source applications like Drupal and OJS. These include the Tony Hillerman Portal (, the UNM Open Journals Portal (, the Searchable Ornithological Research Archive ( and Celebrating New Mexico Statehood ( He also teaches a graduate course in Digital Information Management, and was the founding chair of the library's Research Data Services program.

Professor Comerford has published book chapters in Interdisciplinarity and Academic Libraries, Planning and Implementing Resource Discovery Tools in Academic Libraries, and Expanding Technologies — Expanding Careers: Librarianship in Transition. He has also published papers in the conference proceedings for the Theory and Practice of Digital Librarianship, International Conference on Engineering Education and Research, and the American Society for Information Science and Technology. He has also written official white papers for Microsoft Corporation and the Motion Picture Association of America, and published articles in the Journal of Digital Asset Management and Curator: The Museum Journal.

Professor Comerford holds a Master of Information Science degree from the University of North Texas and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Texas Christian University, and has completed additional graduate study in Anthropology and Information Science. Prior to UNM he was the Group Manager for Media Content Management at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington (1995-2008), a Systems Developer for the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas (1995), and the Visual Resources Library Manager for the Dallas Museum of Art (1990-1995).
